Questions about The Māori Weaving Experience
You will need: A sharp pair of scissors, an old kitchen knife, 8 laundry pegs (the spring clip kind), a source of harakeke (NZ Flax) OR an old calendar or firm paper or canvas that can be cut into strips for weaving.
Each part takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete. You can complete the experience in less than a day or spread it out over a few days - whichever suits you.
The Māori Weaving Experience has been designed specifically for beginners however, even experienced weavers have told us they learned knew things participating in the experience.
We intend to keep the experience available for as long as possible, however we cannot guarantee that free access will remain available indefinitely. We encourage you to make the most of the lessons while they are available and begin your journey now rather than waiting for “the perfect time”.
Absolutely, you can. Our recommendation would for each person be to watch Parts 1 and 2 on their own with each person preparing their materials. Then come together to weave a kono in Part 3 . Then you could all watch the Film Festival film: Tū Tangata - Weaving For The People' . Over refreshments or a shared meal you can reflect on your individual experiences and share your insights together.
