Māori weaving is more than craft - it's an expression of Māori cultural values - connecting the weaver to themselves, other people and to the natural world.This is not about learning something to take and use.
It is about understanding how to begin and continue the practice of weaving with respect.

This experience is designed for beginners especially those who feel unsure, shy, or wonder if they can actually do this.You can. And this is a gentle, welcoming place to begin.

HOW THE EXPERIENCE WILL UNFOLD

The Māori Weaving Experience is designed to be gentle, practical, and easy to fit into your life.The core experience unfolds over five days, with short, guided lessons you can return to each day.After these first five days, you’re welcome to revisit the content and move at your own pace.To ensure this free experience remains active, intentional, and available to others, access is held for 21 days in total.This timeframe supports momentum while giving you flexibility — without pressure to rush.


You'll Need:

- About an hour a day over 5 days (about half a day in total) - you decide- A pair of sharp scissors- A Stanley knife- Six spring laundry pegs- An old calendar or firm paper (if you don’t have harakeke NZ flax)

GUIDED BY VERANOA

Veranoa Hetet learned to weave and to teach weaving with her mother - renowned weaver, teacher and artist - Erenora Puketapu-Hetet.For more than 35 years, Veranoa has taught Māori weaving in person and, since 2015, has guided thousands of weavers online through her clear, gentle teaching style.From her home studio in the papakainga of Waiwhetū in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Veranoa weaves daily, continuing her whānau legacy while nurturing a new generation of weavers in her virtual classroom.Veranoa adapts her weaving practice to care for her body — learners are encouraged to weave in ways that feel comfortable for them
